Justin Arnold Puts Craig Campbell to Sleep & David Hemphill Becomes the New 135lb Champion

Posted on 02/7/10

It was a loud, excited crowd at Fort Leonard Wood on Saturday night. The hard work had been put in and it was time to just relax until time to warm-up.

We didn't get to see many of the other fights, being so focused on our own. We were keeping it chill in the dressing rooms, enjoying the great hospitality of the event promoters. Free drinks and food makes for happy fighters (something all promoters should take into consideration for their events). The warm-up rooms were actually hand-ball courts, so think bright white walls with little ball marks on them and pads in the middle.

Justin Arnold was up first after intermission, fighting sixth. He escaped some tough situations and he got to show off some of his ground game, eventually putting his opponent into a triangle choke. The Samurai improves to 5-0.

It was a composed, calculated fight between David Hemphill and then-current champion Jerry Walker. The two met in the center of the cage and sized each other up. Exchanges were made with David getting the better part of them, putting his 6 inches of height and his significant reach advantage to good use. After a little lull in the action, David feinted and threw a head kick that landed square on Jerry's jaw sending him to the mat and simultaneously winning David his first KO. Jerry is a great guy and we hope he recovers soon. We can't wait to see him fight again on one of our cards.

Sadly, it wasn't J Powell's night. The fight didn't last long as after J got the takedown Dakota Cochran held on for dear life to J's neck, getting a guillotine choke that put J to sleep. J will get a chance at redemption and a shift in momentum in his favor April 17, when he finally gets to face Mark Dickman for the 155lb title in a high-stakes fight you won't want to miss.

Lebanon Fight Club wants to thank the people at Combat Sports Commission and Cage of Honor for putting on a great event. We look forward to more quality fights.

PS — We weren't allowed to sell our merch at the event, but you can score yourself a limited-run fight shirt and have it shipped to you by going to http://lebanonfightclub.bigcartel.com/. Buy 3 of these suckers and support your favorite team of ugly guys!

It's going to be a night of big fights. Bantamweight fighter David Hemphill is gunning for the Cage of Honor 135lb title, facing current champion Jerry Walker. This is a cool opportunity for a little redemption, as David is coming off a couple of losses.

J. Powell was originally going to fight Mark Dickman in a high-stakes fight, but Mark pulled out this week due to "sickness". J. will get another shot at him later on next month, but he has a new opponent in Dakota Cochran.

Justin Arnold is looking to score another W, going up against Craig Campbell. Man, are his hands looking fast, and his ground is tight. He's going to have fun.

Rick Morrow was scheduled to fight Cody Gardner, but Cody pulled out due to "a family emergency". We're not giving up hope that he'll fight though, and we're still looking for a last-minute opponent to face him.

COME GET A NEW SHIRT! We have a new shirt for sale for $15. Show support for your favorite fight team by picking one up this Saturday at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

Zach Junkel and Eric Brown Get the W's

Posted on 02/6/10

Zach Junkel dominated Loy Peters, making it a short night by scoring an early takedown, taking mount and pounding out Loy to improve his record to 2-0

Eric Brown grabbed added a much-desired W to his record with a split-decision win over his opponent Friday night. The fight went the distance and Eric controlled most of the action for the fight keeping his opponent on the ground. Eric escaped a couple of hairy moments, but managed to escape mount and giving up his back at one point. Eric is now in contention for the Cage of Honor title.

Rick Morrow and Justin Arnold didn't get to fight, due to their fighters no-showing, no-calling. Both put in a lot of time and effort to perform their best, only to be screwed by people too afraid to fight.

Lonnie Garoutte and J Powell Take Home Huge Wins

Posted on 9/13/09

Lonnie improved to 2-0 with a big knockout win over Mike McCabe. The fight went back and forth with both fighters utilizing heavy hands and never going to the ground. Lonnie rocked Mike several times during the fight, with Lonnie finishing Mike with a knockdown that put him away.

J Powell certainly had the crowd in his favor going into his fight with Eric Willoughby. J came in and took a jab from Eric that J shook off. From then it was all J as it went to the ground and J pounded him out in the first round.

It wasn't all wins last night, however. JP Hagood lost his belt in the first round to an always game Jared Osthoff getting submitted with a rear-naked choke. Justin Arnold, after training his butt off for this fight, was left with no opponent when his pussed out on him and left the venue. He's that intimidating! David Hemphill went through a three-round war with Eric Acuna, with Eric tapping David towards the end of the third with a triangle choke after David spun the wrong way to escape.

Eric Brown never looked better and fought an EPIC battle with the massive Ray Clayton. Eric controlled the action with well-placed hands and taking Ray down several times. The battle was fought mostly on the ground with Eric arguably winning the first three rounds. With both fighters' gas tanks low, Ray eeked out a rear-naked choke to stop the action in the fourth round.

It was a night of great fights. Good times. Thanks to everyone who came out to support the team. We'll try to get video up as soon as possible.

Updates

Things have been a little slow around the club for the past couple of months in terms of competition. Events have been few in the area and everybody is taking a little break to reassess things. There have been talks of an event happening in January so we're excited to hear that.
